Video editor
Open the editor
Open a video, then tap the magic wand at the bottom. When the phone is sideways, tap ⋮, then Edit.
The editor works for MP4 videos on the phone. It isn't available for other video formats, or for videos in the Secret Space, on a cloud, on a network drive, on a USB drive, or in Deleted items. The magic wand always opens Piktures' video editor, even when you've chosen a default video player.
The editor opens paused on the first frame. Tap the small play button under the video to play or pause it.
Trim the video
The timeline under the video shows its frames. The white frame, with a handle at each end, is the part you keep:
- drag the left handle to cut the beginning, and the right handle to cut the end;
- tap or drag the thin white line to move through the video.
The scissors icon only shows that the timeline trims: trimming is always done with the handles.
The other controls
Under the timeline, the icons have no labels:
- the speaker turns the sound off, or back on. The saved copy has no sound, but the preview keeps playing with its sound;
- the + inserts another video from your phone at the white line. Piktures asks Insert video here? first: tap Continue, then pick the video;
- the framed picture saves the image at the white line as a photo. Piktures asks Capture this frame? first: tap Capture. The photo is saved in Pictures/Piktures Edited;
- the speed button, 1x at first, changes the speed: 3x, 2x, 1.25x, 1x, or 0.75x. The speed applies to the preview and to the saved copy.
Check Don't show this again in a question to skip it next time.
Save
SAVE appears at the top once you've changed something. Piktures always saves a new MP4 video and never changes the original. For a video named VID_1234.mp4, the copy is edited_VID_1234.mp4.
- When the original is in DCIM or Pictures, the copy goes in the same folder, and the viewer shows it.
- Otherwise, or when the video is in Favorites, the copy goes in Pictures/Piktures Edited. Piktures shows Edited item is in Piktures Edited, with a Go to album button.
Without a paid plan, an ad may show while the video is saved.
The back arrow leaves the editor right away, without asking: your changes are lost if you haven't saved them.
