Photo editor
Open the editor
Open a photo, then tap the magic wand at the bottom. When the phone is sideways, tap ⋮, then Edit.
The editor works for the photos on the phone, except GIFs. It isn't available in the Secret Space, on a cloud, on a network drive, on a USB drive, or in Deleted items. For an MP4 video on the phone, the same icon opens the video editor.
With More → Personalisation → Paid options → Default Photo Editor on, the magic wand opens another editing app instead. This needs Premium or Prime (also included in the former Plus plan).
The tools
The editor opens on the crop tools. The five icons at the bottom have no labels:
- the crop icon: Crop, Rotate, Straighten, and Mirror;
- the three circles: the filters;
- the sliders: Contrast, Exposure, Saturation, and Vignette;
- the palette: Drawing and Text;
- the grid of squares: open the photo in another app.
In a tool, ✕ cancels it and ✓ applies it.
Crop and rotate
- Crop crops freely, or to a ratio: 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, or 4:5.
- Rotate turns the photo a quarter turn to the right at each tap.
- Straighten tilts the photo by up to 45° either way.
- Mirror flips the photo at each tap: horizontally, then both ways, then vertically, then back.
Filters
Tap a look to apply it: Pure Enhance, Soft Warm, Cool Minimal, Pastel Airy, Golden Hour Boost, Nature Boost, Crisp Detail, Cinematic Teal, Dark Mood, Film Classic, Soft Matte, or Modern B&W. None removes it.
Adjustments
- Contrast and Exposure go from −100 to +100.
- Saturation changes all the colors. The arrow shows a slider for each color: Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, and Magenta.
- Vignette darkens the edges. The arrow shows its Exposure, Saturation, Contrast, and Falloff.
Drawing and text
- Drawing: choose one of the 9 colors, or any color from the color wheel. The arrow shows 4 brushes, including an eraser, and the size.
- Text: + adds a text box. Drag it to move it, pinch to resize it, and twist to rotate it. The arrow shows the alignment, the colors, 12 fonts, and the size.
Another app
The last icon opens the photo in another editing app. That app gets the original photo, without the changes you made in Piktures.
Undo
There's no undo. To start over, tap ⋮, then Reset: all your changes are removed.
Save
Tap Save at the top. Piktures always saves a new JPEG photo and never changes the original. For a JPEG photo named IMG_1234.jpg, the copy is edited_IMG_1234.jpg, and it keeps the original's date and location.
- When the original is in DCIM or Pictures, the copy goes in the same folder, and the viewer shows it.
- Otherwise, or when the photo is in Favorites, the copy goes in Pictures/Piktures Edited. Piktures shows Edited item is in Piktures Edited, with a Go to album button.
Without a paid plan, an ad may show while the photo is saved, and it takes longer.
If you leave with unsaved changes, Piktures asks Do you want to save before exiting?: tap Save and Exit, or Exit to leave without saving.
