Using Piktures from other apps
Piktures is a gallery app. When another app opens a photo or a video, asks you to pick one, or offers to edit one or set it as the wallpaper, Android can offer Piktures in its list of apps. Whether Piktures becomes the default app depends on your phone.
Open a photo or a video
When another app, such as a file manager or the camera, opens a photo or a video with Piktures, it opens straight in the viewer, without the tabs. If the app passes several files, swipe to see the others. Back returns to the other app.
In this viewer, you can share the file and see its details. For most photos, you can also edit and resize them, and ⋮ → Edit with opens another editor. An edited or resized copy is saved in Pictures/Piktures Edited.
Deleting, moving, favorites, and the other actions of the viewer aren't available: open the photo from the albums of Piktures for those. Videos always play in Piktures' own player here, even when you have chosen another default player.
Pick photos for another app
When an app asks you to choose a photo, for example to attach it to a message, and you choose Piktures:
- The Select destination screen opens on the phone's albums. To pick from a cloud, a network drive, or a USB drive, tap Current drive. The Secret Space isn't offered.
- Open an album.
- Tap a photo: it goes straight to the other app. When the app accepts several photos, select them, then tap Select at the bottom.
When the app asks only for photos, or only for videos, Piktures only shows those. Photos from Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Koofr, Yandex Disk, Nextcloud, or a WebDAV server are downloaded first.
Edit a photo from another app
When an app offers to edit a photo and you choose Piktures, the photo opens in the photo editor of Piktures. The edited photo is saved as a new file in Pictures/Piktures Edited, and the original stays as it was. See Photo editor.
Set a photo as the wallpaper
In another app's Set as menu, choose Wallpaper with the Piktures icon:
- Choose Home screen, Lock screen, or Both.
- Move and zoom the photo. Effect lets the wallpaper shift slightly across home screens.
- Tap Apply. With Both, you set the lock screen first and tap NEXT.
If Piktures can't set the wallpaper, tap Use system wallpaper tool. To change the wallpaper automatically with your favorite photos, see Favorites wallpaper.
What Piktures doesn't do
Piktures isn't in the share menu of other apps. To see a photo in Piktures, open it with Piktures from the other app instead of sharing it.
