Tag your photos

Tags are words you add to your photos, such as a person's name, a trip, or a subject, to find them later. Adding or removing tags needs Premium or Prime (also included in the former Plus plan). Without it, you can open the tag editor, but DONE opens the Upgrade screen.

Tags work on JPEG photos on the phone. They aren't available for other formats, videos, the QR Codes album, the Secret Space, a cloud, a network drive, or a USB drive.

Tag one photo

  1. Open the photo, tap ⋮ at the top right, or swipe up.
  2. In the details, tap Add tag.
  3. Type your tags, separated by commas, and press the keyboard's enter key. Suggestions appear as you type: tap one to use it.
  4. Tap DONE.

To remove a tag, tap its X in the list, then DONE. The back arrow leaves without saving.

Tag several photos at once

  1. Select the photos. See Selecting large set of items.
  2. Tap the tag icon, the first icon of the selection bar.
  3. Type your tags and tap DONE.

The tags are added to every selected photo, which keep the tags they already had. To remove a tag, edit one photo at a time.

Android may ask you to allow Piktures to change the photos. Allow it.

Where tags are saved

Tags are written inside the photo file, not on a server, so they stay with the photo when you copy it. Piktures also keeps them in its own index on the phone, for the search. Tags can use accents and any alphabet, for example été or 東京. Only the square brackets [ and ] can't be used.

Tags added with older versions of Piktures still show.

The details also show a few words Piktures adds by itself, such as morning or landscape. You can't remove them, and they aren't written in the photo.

Find your photos by tag

In the search, the TAGS section lists your tags, and typing a tag also finds it. See Search and filters.
