Search and filters

Open the search

1. In the Photos tab, open All to search the whole phone, or open an album to search inside it.
2. Tap the magnifier at the top.

The search is available for the phone's albums and on a network drive. It isn't in the Secret Space, on a cloud, on a USB drive, in Deleted items, or in a smart album.

On a network drive, the search only filters the open folder by type of file.

Type a word

Type in Search text, location, date. A list of suggestions appears as you type: tap one to add it as a filter. Or press the search key of the keyboard to search for the text itself.

The text is searched in file and folder names, places, camera models, tags, and years. Type one word or phrase at a time. To find a month, use the MONTHS section rather than typing its name.

Filter with the sections

When the field is empty, the search screen lists sections. A section only shows when it has entries:

• ALBUMS: the phone's albums.
• MEDIA: photos, videos, and separate chips for GIF, PNG, and WebP images.
• YEARS and MONTHS: the date the photo was taken. Photos without that date aren't listed there.
• COUNTRIES, then CITIES: see Search by place.
• CAMERAS: the camera or phone model that took the photo.
• TAGS: your own tags. Adding tags to photos needs Premium or Prime (also included in the former Plus plan): see Tag your photos.

Each chip shows how many photos match. View all shows every chip of a section, and Hide folds it back.

You can choose several chips:

• in the same section, the search shows the photos that match any of them: 2023 and 2024 under YEARS shows both years;
• in different sections, it shows the photos that match all of them: 2023 and a camera show the photos of 2023 taken with that camera.

The chosen filters appear under the search bar. Tap one to remove it. Then tap View result.

The results

The results are titled Search result, with your filters under the top bar. Tap a filter to remove it: removing the last one ends the search. Tap ✕ at the top left, or go back, to return to the album.

A search started from an album always stays inside that album. To search the whole phone, start from All.

Save a search as a smart album

On the results, tap the save icon, type a name in Enter the name for the filter, and tap OK. This needs Premium or Prime.

The search appears in the SMART ALBUMS section of the Albums tab. Each time you open it, it runs again, so new photos that match appear in it. A smart album's filters can't be changed: to change them, save a new search and delete the old one. See Special albums.

Search the album names

In the Albums tab, the magnifier searches the names of the albums: the list shows the albums whose name contains what you type. Tap the back arrow to end the search. It works for the phone's albums and the Secret Space.

Show only photos or only videos

At the top of the phone's Albums tab, All, Photos, and Videos filter the list: Photos shows the albums that contain photos, and the album you open then shows only its photos. Videos does the same for videos.
