Video player
Tap a video in an album: it plays in the viewer, with Piktures' player. It works for the videos on the phone, in the Secret Space, on a USB drive, on a network drive, and on a cloud. Videos that aren't on the phone show a spinner while they load.
The screen stays on while a video plays. Swiping to another item pauses it.
The controls
Tap the video to show or hide the controls. The icons have no labels:
- the sun shows a brightness slider on the left of the screen. It changes the brightness while you're in Piktures, not Android's own setting. Tap the video to hide it;
- the backward and forward arrows marked 10 go back or forward 10 seconds;
- the large button plays or pauses the video. At the end, it starts the video again;
- the speaker turns the sound off, or back on.
Under them, drag the dot of the bar to move through the video. The last row sets the speed, 0.75, 1, 1.25, 2, or 3, and the repeat icon replays the video when it ends. Both only apply to this video.
The picture-in-picture icon at the top keeps the video playing in a small window over your other apps, when the phone supports it. The other buttons of the viewer work as for photos: see Viewing a photo or video.
Video settings
In More → Settings → VIDEO:
- Auto play, on by default, starts a video as soon as you open it. Off, it opens paused.
- Loop play, off by default, replays every video when it ends.
- Mute by default, off by default, starts every video without sound. Tap the speaker to hear it.
Use another player
- For one video: open it, tap ⋮, then Play with, and choose an app.
- For every video: turn on More → Personalisation → Paid options → Default Video Player. This needs Premium or Prime (also included in the former Plus plan). With Auto play on, a tap on a video opens your default video app. With Auto play off, the viewer shows the video's picture with a large play button: tap it to open the other app.
The magic wand still opens Piktures' video editor: see Video editor.
Motion photos
Some cameras save a short video inside the photo, called a motion photo. When you open such a photo on the phone, a play icon appears at the top of the viewer. Piktures recognises motion photos in Google's format.
- Tap the play icon: the short video plays in a loop, from the moment the photo was taken. Tap it again to pause.
- While it plays, ⋮ at the top sets a slower speed: x0.75, x0.5, or x0.25.
- While it's paused, Export frame saves the image at the cursor as a photo, and ⋮ → Extract video saves the short video as a separate file. Both go in the same folder as the photo.
- Tap ✕ at the top left to return to the photo.
Without a paid plan, an ad may show while a frame or a video is saved.
