Widget and shortcuts

The photo widget

The Piktures widget shows a photo from your albums on the home screen and changes it regularly. It picks a random photo from the albums you choose, and shows its date and city at the bottom when it knows them.

Add the widget

  1. On the home screen, open your launcher's list of widgets, find Piktures, and place the widget.
  2. The widget's settings open. Tap Add album, choose an album of the phone, and tap Select this album.
  3. Set the options, then tap SAVE.

The options are:

  • Flipping interval: a new photo about every 15mn, 2h, 12h, or 24h (the default);
  • Aspect ratio: square, tall, wide, or the photo's own shape;
  • Shape, for a square widget: 10 shapes, from a circle to a heart;
  • Roundness, for the other ratios: how rounded the corners are.

Tap an album's chip to remove it from the widget.

A widget with one album, a new photo every 24 hours, and the square shape is free. More albums, another interval, another ratio, or another shape need Premium or Prime (also included in the former Plus plan).

You can place several Piktures widgets, each with its own settings. On most phones, a long press on the widget lets you change its settings later.

Tap the widget

Piktures opens the widget's photo in its album. Swipe to see the album's other photos.

A shortcut to an album

In an album, tap ⋮, then Link to desktop. Android asks you to confirm, and the shortcut appears on the home screen with the album's cover as its icon. Piktures closes afterwards. Tap the shortcut to open the album in Piktures.

It isn't available on a network drive or a WebDAV server (Webdav, Nextcloud, Koofr, Yandex Disk).

Don't add a shortcut to a secret album: anyone can see it on the home screen, and it opens the phone's albums, not the Secret Space.

A shortcut to a photo or a video

Open the photo or the video, tap ⋮, then Add to home screen. The shortcut is named after the file, and opens it in Piktures' viewer. This works for the photos and videos on the phone.

Both shortcuts need a launcher that accepts them: otherwise, nothing is added.
